Thursday, July 4, 2002: Pain Killers, New York Metro - New York Magazine:"Fears about addiction and overregulation have long prevented doctors from taking pain as seriously as they take curing disease. But new treatments -- and new attitudes -- are finally giving chronic sufferers hope of living pain-free lives."
Emotional Pain Relief:"When you have a headache, you take something for it, right? That's just common sense. So it follows that when you have emotional pain, you should take something for it. I prescribe the following painkillers for emotional pain."
Integration Of Behavioral And Relaxation Approaches Into The Treatment Of Chronic Pain And Insomnia:"Chronic pain and insomnia afflict millions of Americans. Despite the acknowledged importance of psychosocial and behavioral factors in these disorders, treatment strategies have tended to focus on biomedical interventions such as drugs and surgery. The purpose of this conference was to examine the usefulness of integrating behavioral and relaxation approaches with biomedical interventions in clinical and research settings to improve the care of patients with chronic pain and insomnia."
Mayday Upper Peninsula Pain Project:"This web site has been established through the efforts of the Mayday Upper Peninsula Pain Project. The major goal and mission of the Upper Peninsula Pain Project is to provide awareness and information about the treatment of pain. This Project was originally supported by the Mayday Fund."

The KCPI is working to ensure that information enabling effective treatment of cancer pain is available to all."
Back Pain and Sciatica:"Back pain is very common and a major cause of disability and days off work. It is usually non-inflammatory ("mechanical") in origin. It is often due simply to bad posture, incorrect lifting of heavy loads or sometimes previous injury.
Often this type of back pain can be helped by exercises to strengthen back muscles, improvement of bad posture and lifting technique, and sometimes a lumbar support corset. Pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs are also used for symptom relief."
Patient's Bill of Rights Regarding Pain Management:"The American Academy of Pain Management endorses a patient's bill of rights. It is an expectation that compliance with patient's rights can contribute to an effective patient care program.
