George Washington University Nurse Practitioner Program:"The George Washington University Nurse Practitioner Program, founded in 1972 as a certificate program, was among the first in the nation to use an interdisciplinary educational approach, educating nurse practitioner students with medical and physician assistant students. In 1987, The George Washington University entered into affiliation with the George Mason University College of Nursing and Health Sciences to offer graduate course work for master's level nurse practitioners. This was followed by the development of the Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner Program in 1991. The program further evolved to include a distance-friendly Family Nurse Practitioner Program in 1997."
