Turn Your Knowledge & Experience Into Revenue! What Exactly Is A Nurse Entrepreneur What Made You Decide To Start Your Own Business?
|
What made you decide to start your own business? I have always had business ideas and wanted to do things differently and run things the way I wanted to. I decided to start my own business after I was fired and realized I didn’t have interest or passion in doing any of the jobs I looked at.
E-mail Address: Nena@harthealthcaresolutions.com http://www.nursingentrepreneurs.com/hart
What made you decide to start your own business? The more I work with patients and families, the more value I see in my knowledge as a nurse. Health impacts all aspects on an individual's life, as well as those around them. Starting Healthy Now and Later is a way for me to reach beyond the bedside and share this knowledge to improve the health, wellbeing, and life of another.
Leah Korkis, BSN, RN, Healthy Now and Later:"Healthy Now and Later is a free resource for caregivers and those 55+. There they will find information on common
health topics, health promotion recipes for special diets, and a nation-wide database of local services and financial aid.
For further information or clarification, visitors may also "Ask A Nurse"." ****************************************************** What made you decide to start your own business? Autonomy to help others in a non clinical setting in an effort to hopefully empower them in such a way that they might be able to avoid hospitalization or chronic health Issues. I have been an entreprenuer all of my life and my nursing degree and license allow me to practice in the capacity I have always wanted to: to help others holistically to reach their lifestyle and wellness goals. In addition, I am a relationship type of person and appreciate long term interactions/communication with clients.
Shannon Garrett, BS, RN, CHLC, Shannon Garrett Wellness, @AutoimmuneRN, Tennessee Nurse Entrepreneurs, Health Coaches:"I provide holistic health, wellness, nutrition, and lifestyle coaching for women who struggle with the many complexities of living with autoimmune or other chronic health issues. I have a 12 week program I work them through to help them reach their goals and I provide a NANDA wellness care plan for them. I personally have three autoimmune issues and know what these women go through. Medication nor diet are stand-alone treatments. Lifestyle issues are an integral part of healing and I help them work through challenges." ****************************************************** What made you decide to start your own business? I felt the need from the nursing profession for relevant education that is applicable across multiple business fields.
Daniel P. Gracie, DNP, RN-BC, Nursing Informatics Institute, South Carolina Nurse Entrepreneurs:"The Nursing Informatics Institute is a provider of healthcare and nursing informatics. We offer courses on-site in topics such as project management, basics of nursing informatics, and nursing informatics review courses. Additionally we offer online study questions and are working on some books and online learning opportunities for the future." ****************************************************** What made you decide to start your own business? I always knew I wanted to own my own "something" I just never knew what that something was. So I went to school for my master's in business and nursing- just in case that idea came to me! When I left my inpatient role to work at a wellness center, coordinating a physician referred exercise program, I went through a health and wellness coaching program- my first one of two. When I was done the club wanted me to coach their clients there. But I realized that wasn't what I wanted to do- I wanted to coach my own clients in my own business. That "something" had turned into a reality. I am quite independent, motivated, hard-working, committed, and dedicated. I want to make a difference and have an impact on the nursing profession. I want to help our profession rise to a new level. That being said my "coaching" business has turned into so much more- I realized that nurses needed me in many different capacities. So I have turned to speaking, writing, radio show hosting, and many other modalities to be able to help nurses where they are at. I love being a business owner and I wouldn't have it any other way! Elizabeth Scala, MSN/MBA, RN, Certified Health and Wellness Coach, Reiki Master, Living Sublime Wellness:"Elizabeth "Nurse Coach" Scala, MSN/MBA, RN is passionate about helping healthcare professionals, nurses in particular, to embody holistic living and embrace self-care. I decided to start my own business in order to bring my many gifts and insights to nurses in search of opportunities to improve their health, improve their work-life balance, increase their personal and professional satisfaction, and live happier and more satisfying lives. I believe that nurses need to learn how to take better care of themselves so that they can provide the best care possible. My coaching practice focuses on nurses taking control of their own lives, health, and career path. The ripple effect of this type of proactive personal empowerment by nurses is enormous, since nurses touch the lives of so many individuals and communities. My own coaching business/practice seemed like the most intelligent way to accomplish these goals. Education—and saw the many obstacles of this traditional type of education: getting the nurses to the course, expense, travel, schedule difficulties, different learning styles and paces. It occurred to me that there had to be a better way to provide these nurses the didactic portion of I.V. education in a capacity that met THEIR needs. My husband (and CTO) has over 28 years of experience in software and database architecture, and website management. So we dreamed up Pedagogy-which means "the art and science of teaching"—and we were off! It is a great misconception that all there is to I.V. education is how to insert a catheter—take one of our courses and you will soon realize—there is a lot of knowledge a nurse must have to deliver infusion therapy to their patients safely.

The longer I was in the medical field and the more consulting I did, I saw a great need in the area of financial control. Hospitals were broke, companies were broke and the devastation I saw from that led me to help individuals focus on their own financial game plan - Especially physicians and nurses - they made the most money and spent the most - A typical physician earning about 125k a year was spending 150k a year - not a good financial position - So my crusade became that of educator -Educator and coach - getting health care professionals to develop and maintain a financial life.

What made you decide to start your own business? The natural ability to initiate change and willingness to work long hours until the job was complete. I did this for the college, worked 60 hour weeks for 40 hour pay, was responsible for everything but received no recognition and no pay raise. After 4 years of teaching nursing and nursing in the hospital 15 years for such a low pay scale I realized I would have to take matters in my own hand to find my way to the wealth I desired.I am passionalte about my Nursing Entrepreneurial Career and desire to help nurses all over find the security, satisfaction in their nursing career as I have found. That's why I created Nursing Success System, a system or method of conducting business that has already been proven to succeed.
