Marital Status: Single Nationality: German, Lithuanian ancestry How many years have you been practicing as a nurse: Too many 28 yrs Professional organizations you belong to: AACN Would you recommend the field: No When I went to school in NYC women became either teachers nurses or nuns Today they have many more acceptable career options. That is not to denigrate the profession however I was probably better suited to do something else when I made my choice but today I do feel very strongly about the worth and contributions of nurses to health care in general and patients in particular. Employment changes in career: 7 plus PT in a couple of others Reason for the change: Boredom.......I like to try different things If you lost your job tomorrow how easily do you feel you find new employment: fairly easily but may nor make same salary, benefits and risk having to work an off-shift In how many years would you like to retire: Another 15 years or so at about age 65 but will probably work at some nursing related job PT just to keep my brain cells engaged Have you started any type of retirement fund: Am 100 vested in my employers retirement plan also have my own tax-deferred mutual fund retirement plan. Would this travel : No I could leave the retirement income where it is or cash it out and roll it over without penalty into another retirement plan. Do you feel the availability of Patient Educational Materials on the WWW would be beneficial: Definitely Nursing School you attend if applicable: Hunter College of CUNY BSN 69. Currently attending a certification program at University of California, Riverside in managed care. Where do you work: USC Norris Hospital an NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center Do you carry a personal malpractice insurance policy why or why not: No used to years ago let it lapse and never got around to getting another one Your most pressing concerns with the profession and healthcare: Quality Quality Quality Lets face it the bottom line is the buck.......until that reality really sinks in and nurses equip themselves with much more business acumen and meet MDS HMOs etc. on their own turf our caring nurturing qualities will get us nowhere. When we want to make changes to improve patient care we had better present them along with a cost analysis or balance sheet or they'll never be implemented. How many nurse administrators do you know of with MBAs Being fiscally practical does necessarily change the end point or goal-Quality Patient Care- only the means of how to get there What attracted you to the field of Nursing: I didn't want to be a teacher and I was much too rambunctious to be a nun Favorite TV show and musical artists: ER Homicide Law and Order Mystery X-Files Millennium........Eagles in general those oldies that are still around making music today Favorite food: Italian or any ethnic food authentically made......no raw fish please........ Personal or favorite Quote: penny-wise pound-foolish...............guess where that applies Qualities you admire in your friends & loved ones: Humor Loyalty Commitment...........no fair weather friends need apply Pet Peeves: Dumb drivers tardiness people who spend too much time on the phone ...........at work Major turn-offs: People who expect special treatment or benefits because of who they are or because of their wealth. Hobbies and activities you enjoy outside of work: Love the movies.....reading snow skiing when I'm in shape and the sun is out eating out with friends travel. Pets favorite vacation spots: 2 pound cats...Pepper and Snowshoes.
