Florence Nightingale, Nursing History, Biographies:"Florence Nightingale is most remembered as a pioneer of nursing and a reformer of hospital sanitation methods. For most of her ninety years, Nightingale pushed for reform of the British military health-care system and with that the profession of nursing started to gain the respect it deserved. Unknown to many, however, was her use of new techniques of statistical analysis, such as during the Crimean War when she plotted the incidence of preventable deaths in the military. She developed the "polar-area diagram" to dramatize the needless deaths caused by unsanitary conditions and the need for reform. Flunitrazepam (Rohypnol), Iowa Department of Public Safety:"Rohypnol has been a concern for the last few years because of its abuse as a "date rape" drug. People may unknowingly be given the drug which, when mixed with alcohol, can incapacitate and prevent a victim from resisting sexual assault. Also, Rohypnol may be lethal when mixed with alcohol and/or other depressants.
Rohypnol produces sedative-hypnotic effects including muscle relaxation and amnesia. In Miami, one of the first sites of Rohypnol abuse, poison control centers report an increase in withdrawal seizures among people addicted to Rohypnol."

A five minute preview is available as a streaming video presentation. The preview features Dr. Walter Scott of FDA discussing catheter tip location. This program follows "a day in the life" of two residents as they deal with the complications associated with the use of central venous catheters (CVCs). Surgical landmarks and underlying anatomy for CVC placement are reviewed. While assessing specific patient needs, they discuss catheter selection; patient preparation and positioning; vein vs. artery differentiation; and EKG monitoring. Radiology and pathology case reviews are presented. The importance of infection control and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) use is presented, with a final note on home care."
