(BSN, RN to BS to MS, MSN):"CNHS History UVM's Nursing and Health Sciences
programs have a distinguished history. The
programs have existed 60 and 52 years, respectively
and together have more than 6,000 alumni.
Until 2002 the programs were housed in the
former Schools of Nursing and Allied Health
Sciences. Those two small Schools were consolidated
into a single academic unit, the College
of Nursing and Health Sciences, for purposes
of efficiency and mutual enrichment. We remain
a relatively small unit with 452 undergraduate
students, 115 graduate students, 45 faculty
and 17 staff (fall 2004 data). Long known
for excellence in teaching and advising,
our programs have had a major impact on healthcare
in the region and nation by educating generations
of excellent clinicians. Our faculty members
have always been actively engaged in professional
service at national, regional and local levels,
including direct clinical practice, and they
are known for their outstanding service in
the Faculty Senate and University committees."

of study leading to the Bachelor of Science
in Nursing degree (BSN). This program is
fully approved by the Virginia State Board
of Nursing and has been granted unconditional
accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate
Nursing Education. After completing the prerequisite
courses, students may apply for admission
to the nursing major, which has two tracks.
Upon completion of the general education
courses and the required nursing courses,
the student will have accrued a total of

Nursing:"Our RN to B.S.N. bridge program is designed
for a student who is a registered nurse with
an Associate Degree in Nursing from a Junior
College/Community College or a diploma in
Nursing from a hospital based program. UWF's
program leads to a Bachelor of Science in
Nursing degree (BSN). An applicant to this
upper level, 2 year program must be licensed
to practice in the State of Florida prior
to the enrollment in the first clinical course
in the degree plan. The 4 year BSN program
is a limited access program available to
upper division students who have taken the
appropriate lower division preparatory courses.
As a limited access program, UWF can select
36 students to begin the upper division nursing
program in the Fall semester of each year."
