Lourdes Offers Summer Nursing Camp for Teens, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center:"Based on the overwhelming success of last summer’s Nursing Camp for teens, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center will be hosting two sessions of the popular camp this summer. The first session will be held from June 28 to July 2; a second session will be offered from July 26 to July 30. The camp is open to students who will be in the 8th or 9th grade as of September 2004. The focus of the camp is to learn about nursing as a career. Students will also receive CPR and basic first aid training as well as have the opportunity to tour the hospital and interact with a variety of healthcare professionals.
There is no cost to attend but registrations are limited. Applications can be obtained from the Nursing Office at the hospital."

LSD, Iowa Department of Public Safety:"LSD is a Scheduled I controlled substance.
LSD, AKA"acid," is odorless, colorless, and has a slightly bitter taste and is usually taken by mouth. Often LSD is added to absorbent paper, such as blotter paper, and divided into small, decorated squares, with each square representing one dose.
Health Hazards
Physical Psychological short-term effects. The effects of LSD are unpredictable. They depend on the amount taken; the user's personality, mood, and expectations; and the surroundings in which the drug is used. Usually, the user feels the first effects of the drug 30 to 90 minutes after taking it. The physical effects include dilated pupils, higher body temperature, increased heart rate and blood pressure, sweating, loss of appetite, sleeplessness, dry mouth, and tremors."

How are blood gas samples obtained?
Blood Gases are normally obtained from an artery because arterial blood will give your doctor the best idea of how well your lungs are working. The blood sample is obtained in much the same way that a standard blood sample is taken. The only difference is that most blood samples are taken from a vein and this sample will come from an artery. The amount of discomfort should be about the same as any blood sample that you have given in the past. This blood is usually drawn from your wrist or the inside of your arm just opposite."
