Two Case Reports And Review Of The Literature:"Recently, a surprising high failure rate exchanging endotracheal tubes has been noted by Mort et al. when using the oral approach (16). This preliminary report is the only study comparing two different ETTE found in a review of the literature using the keywords airway, exchanger, catheter, changer, endotracheal, intubation, extubation, difficult airway and fiberoptic bronchoscope with four different search engines (Grateful Med(r), Ovid(r), Healthgate Free Medline(r) and PubMed(r)) since1966 to date. The scarce information about complications of this type leads us to report the following cases."

Vallino, of Hazelwood, Missouri, has invented a simple device that makes it safer and easier for hospitals to provide patients with IVs. Lisa Vallino, RN BSN, has worked for many years as an emergency room and pediatrics nurse. Like most nurses, she learned to improvise methods of treatment in the absence of standard equipment. For example, nurses commonly used to cut a plastic cup in half and then tape it for protection around the site where an IV needle enters an arm or leg; this makeshift method was clumsy and could even be dangerous."

Sept. 6, 2002, Philadelphia, Is There A Male Nurse In The House?:"(AP) Recent graduates of the nation's nursing schools are leaving the profession more quickly than their predecessors, with male nurses bolting at almost twice the rate of their female counterparts, according to a new study.
About 7.5 percent of new male nurses left the profession within four years of graduating from nursing school, compared to 4.1 percent of new female nurses, according to the study by a University of Pennsylvania researcher. It was reported Thursday in the journal Health Affairs."
